You are not born into sin

There is an American Indian tale where a man tells a child about two wolves battling within the mind and heart of man. One is good, the other evil. The child wants to know which wolf will win. The adult answers, whichever one you feed.

The Christian concept of original sin, that man is born a sinner, is a theory, an interpretation, first postulated by Saint Augustine 400 years after the death of Christ Jesus. There is another interpretation of the Genesis scripture that says man is born with a dual nature. This is the essence, the requirement, of freedom of choice. You can choose which wolf to feed. You are not destined for one or the other.

There exists within you the inclination to be greater and the inclination to be lesser. You are not good or bad. You have within you the temptation towards both. Moment to moment you live your life. One choice fuels another. Another fork in the road is ever before you. You are not the sum of your choices. You are as you choose this moment.
